"Some men see things as they are, and say, why? I dream things that never were, and say, why not?" -George Bernard Shaw quoted by Edward Kennedy
Hi, I’m Brianna. I’m a healer but I also dream of a more fulfilling existence for people and our planet. I help people stop living from their fears and start living from their dreams.
I guide people to a greater understanding of the ways in which fear is running their lives and teach them to believe in themselves, so they can make informed decisions about what they actually want in life, not what their fears want.
That’s all great but will I be able to help you?
What you are experiencing is a normal reaction to what you’ve been through. I know you feel stuck and it’s really okay to ask for help; if you could do this on your own, you would have done it by now.
In my experience working with people, whether I can help really depends on two things 1) your courage to look at and face the things you fear and 2) how much effort you are able to put into your work.
I won’t force you do anything you don’t want to do; that wouldn’t be very helpful. My job is to help you see the things that are getting in your way and give you a gentle push to face your fears and make changes.
Yes, but do I actually “get it”?
As you may have already gleaned from my degree and career choice, I am currently in recovery for high achievement and caretaking, so let’s just say, I get it. And, between my personal experience and formal training, I have an idea or two about how to help you with these things.
I believe in the power of dreams. I believe in the beauty and resiliency of human beings. I believe in empowerment, not power over. I believe that the most important parts of life are the relationships we have with one another and our planet. And, along those lines, I believe we have a great responsibility to protect one another and our planet. I believe that the values revered and reinforced by society are completely fucked up (e.g., power, work, consumerism) and if we want a chance at a fulfilling existence and at keeping our planet alive, we need to wake up and smell the fossil fuels. The good news is that I truly believe that we all have the courage to face our fears and the power to save ourselves and our planet.
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, which is an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited program, and completed an APA-accredited internship at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. I spent two years working with Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the father of Cognitive Therapy, at the University of Pennsylvania and have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also have training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Family Systems Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Jungian Analysis, and psychological shamanism. I have completed all requirements for licensure short of sitting for the licensure exam. I have chosen not to complete the final stage of the licensure process because I believe that the laws of the State of Minnesota and the rules and regulations of the Minnesota Board of Psychology do not, in many cases, serve the best interests of clients and therapists.
I believe that teaching people to believe in themselves and start dreaming again will change the world. That’s why I hope you take the next step to schedule a session today.
