Black Sunflower: Lake Superior Agate Healing Crystal Necklace
Black Sunflower: Lake Superior Agate Healing Crystal Necklace
Lake Superior Agate necklace, resembling a black sunflower, strung on gold-filled chain, with gold-filled clasp, gold filled wire and five onyx.
This translucent stone, "Black Sunflower," showcases what resembles part of a black sunflower in the top right corner, with a light honey center, and black petals, outlined with dark honey coloring. In the lower left corner is a rust stripe, outlined by a dark honey stripe. The entire front has a lightly bubbled texture from the volcanic rock that molded this stone. The back side has a black spot and tiny bubble indentations from the volcanic rock mold. Finally, one of the sides has several brown stripes, following the contour of the stone.
A unique piece of Minnesota history in jewelry form.
17 3/4" chain

Photos are taken from different angles and with different filters to best illustrate the full beauty of the agate in 2D.
Agates have natural divots and fissures that are seen as unique variations rather than flaws.
These agates were deposited in Minnesota by the Lake Superior Glacier during the last ice age and happen to be the official state gemstone. I start by hunting for the rough stones, then scrub them to reveal their potential, polish them into gem form in my tumbler, and finally, turn them into jewelry.
